PTSD & Trauma

PTSD and Emotional Trauma are the few mental illnesses triggered by an outside, traumatising event. Traumatic events can produce a lasting negative effect leaving a person anxious and unable to cope with everyday life.

Living through a terrifying event or experience, can leave one feeling shattered and experiencing difficulty coping and adjusting. If you can’t stop reliving the traumatic experiences and it affects your everyday functioning, you might be suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

ptsdSome of the most common traumatic events that may lead to emotional trauma and post-traumatic stress disorder include:

  • Sudden death of a loved one
  • War
  • Rape
  • Kidnapping
  • Natural disasters (e.g., tornadoes, earthquakes, hurricanes)
  • Terrorist attacks
  • Car or plane crashes
  • Assault
  • Sexual or physical abuse
  • Childhood neglect

PTSD is found to occur in approximately one in ten of individuals affected by a traumatic event. Additional research shows the majority of individuals affected by post-traumatic stress disorder also suffer from another psychological disorder (e.g., depressionanxiety). These individuals are also more prone to problems with substance abuse of drugs and/or alcohol.

Several types of treatment options are available if you are suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder. The most often prescribed method of treatment is psychotherapy. Medications and other types of physical treatment options are also prescribed. Your doctor will formulate the best treatment course of action for you.

Acupuncture is a supportive modality, and should be used as and when needed. The AcuDetox protocol helps to strengthen willpower, to accelerate the withdrawal process, and to ease the withdrawal experience. It helps to release toxicity restoring the body’s natural ability to heal.

Any treatment should coincide with exercise, a healthy diet, a regular sleep schedule and stress management techniques – such as yoga or meditation.
